La precisión de las pruebas para alergias es muy variable. Incluso la misma prueba administrada a la misma persona en diferentes ocasiones puede arrojar distintos resultados. Una persona puede reaccionar a una sustancia durante la prueba y nunca reaccionar durante su exposición normal o también puede presentar un resultado negativo en la prueba para alergia y aún así ser alérgica a la sustancia.
