Valores normales:

Lo normal es la ausencia de anticuerpos (un examen negativo).

Los rangos de los valores normales pueden variar ligeramente entre diferentes laboratorios. La persona debe hablar con el médico acerca del significado de los resultados específicos de su examen.

Significado de los resultados anormales:

Los exámenes de serología (sangre) detectan la presencia de anticuerpos contra cada uno de los virus de la hepatitis. Los anticuerpos IgM elevados indican una hepatitis aguda, mientras que los anticuerpos IgG elevados sugieren la presencia de una hepatitis crónica.

Los exámenes positivos pueden indicar:

  • Hepatitis B crónica o portador de la hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis A (infección activa o recuperación de una infección previa)
  • Hepatitis B (recuperación de una infección previa o inmunidad obtenida por la vacuna contra la hepatitis B)
  • Hepatitis C (portador crónico de esta enfermedad)
  • Hepatitis D, cuando se encuentra junto con hepatitis B
