Entre los medicamentos que pueden disminuir el conteo de plaquetas están: medicamentos quimioterapéuticos, cloramfenicol, colchicina, agentes bloqueadores H2, heparina, hidralazina, indometacina, isoniazida, quinidina, estreptomicina, sulfamida, diuréticos tiazídicos y tolbutamida.

Las venas y arterias varían en tamaño de un paciente a otro y de un lado del cuerpo al otro, razón por la cual obtener muestras de sangre en algunas personas puede ser más difícil que en otras.
