Valores normales:

Los valores normales y anormales difieren para los bebés nacidos con bajo peso. En general, los resultados normales son los siguientes

  • Sangre del cordón: 1.000-3.000 ng/dL
  • >24 horas: menos de 100 ng/dL
  • Adultos: menos de 200 ng/dL

Nota: ng/dL = nanogramos por decilitro.

Significado de los resultados anormales:

Los niveles altos de 17-OH progesterona pueden deberse a:

  • Tumores suprarrenales
  • Hiperplasia suprarrenal congénita (HSC)

En bebés con HSC, los niveles de 17- OH progesterona van de 3.000 a 40.000 ng/dL. En los adultos, un nivel superior a 200 ng/dL puede deberse a hiperplasia suprarrenal no clásica.
