Existe una pequeña posibilidad de que la aguja penetre los intestinos, la vejiga o un vaso sanguíneo en el abdomen, lo que ocasiona posiblemente perforación del intestino, sangrado e infección.

Consideraciones especiales:

El diagnóstico de peritonitis no sólo se basa en el cultivo del líquido peritoneal (el cual puede seguir siendo negativo incluso en presencia de esta enfermedad).
