Cuáles son los riesgos:

Existe algún riesgo de infección a causa de la sonda. Los síntomas pueden incluir:

  • Ardor durante la micción (después del primer día)
  • Escalofríos
  • Disminución de la presión arterial (hipotensión)
  • Fiebre
  • Aumento de la frecuencia cardíaca
  • Aumento de la frecuencia respiratoria

La cantidad de exposición a la radiación es similar a la de otras radiografías. Como sucede con cualquier exposición a la radiación, las mujeres en período de lactancia o embarazadas no deben someterse a este examen, a menos que se determine que los beneficios superan los riesgos.

Consideraciones especiales:

En los hombres, se protegen los testículos de los rayos X.

Este examen no se realiza muy a menudo, pero generalmente se combina con imágenes por tomografía computarizada para una mejor resolución. El cistouretrograma miccional (VCUG, por sus siglas en inglés) o la cistoscopia se emplean con más frecuencia.
