Definición:

Una radiografía del cráneo es una imagen de los huesos que rodean el cerebro, incluyendo los huesos faciales, la nariz y los senos paranasales.

Forma en que se realiza el examen:

El examen lo realiza un técnico en rayos X en la sala de radiología del hospital o en el consultorio del médico. Se le solicitará acostarse sobre la mesa de rayos X o sentarse en una silla. Es posible que le ubiquen la cabeza en varias posiciones.

Preparación para el examen:

Infórmele al médico si usted está en embarazo y quítese todas las joyas.

Lo que se siente durante el examen:

Generalmente, hay poca o ninguna molestia durante una radiografía. Si hay un traumatismo craneal, el posicionamiento de la cabeza puede resultar incómodo.

Razones por las que se realiza el examen:

El médico puede ordenar este examen si usted se ha lesionado el cráneo o tiene síntomas o signos de un problema estructural dentro de éste, como un tumor o sangrado.

Una radiografía del cráneo también se utiliza para evaluar la cabeza de un niño cuya forma es inusual.
