Definición:

Una radiografía de los senos paranasales es una imagen de las cavidades llenas de aire que se encuentran en la parte frontal del cráneo.

Forma en que se realiza el examen:

Los rayos X son una forma de radiación electromagnética, como la luz, pero de mayor energía y pueden penetrar el cuerpo para formar una imagen en una película. Las estructuras que son densas, como el hueso, aparecen blancas, el aire aparece de color negro y otras estructuras aparecen con sombras de color gris.

Una radiografía de los senos paranasales se toma en la sala de radiología del hospital o en el consultorio del médico. Se le pide a la persona que se siente en una silla, de tal manera que cualquier líquido presente en los senos paranasales se pueda observar fácilmente en las imágenes. El técnico puede ubicar la cabeza de la persona en diferentes posiciones a medida que se toman las radiografías.

Preparación para el examen:

La persona le debe comentar al médico si está embarazada y debe quitarse todas las joyas antes del procedimiento.

Generalmente, hay poca o ninguna molestia asociada con los rayos X.
