Definición:

La radiografía de la columna torácica es una radiografía de las 12 vértebras del tórax, las cuales están separadas por almohadillas cartilaginosas planas que les brindan amortiguación.

Forma en que se realiza el examen:

El examen se realiza en la sala de radiología de un hospital o en el consultorio médico. Usted se acostará sobre la mesa de rayos X y se le solicitará colocarse en diferentes posiciones. Si la radiografía es para determinar la presencia de una lesión, se tendrá el cuidado necesario con el fin de prevenir una lesión mayor.

El equipo de rayos X se ubicará sobre el área torácica de la columna. Usted deberá contener la respiración a medida que se toma la imagen, de manera que ésta no aparezca borrosa. Normalmente, se necesitan 2 ó 3 radiografías.

Preparación para el examen:

Coméntele al médico si usted está embarazada. Quítese todas las joyas.

Lo que se siente durante el examen:

Este examen no ocasiona ninguna molestia, aunque la mesa puede estar fría.

Razones por las que se realiza el examen:

Los rayos X ayudan a evaluar las lesiones, enfermedades o tumores óseos, al igual que la pérdida de cartílago.
