Riesgos:

Hay una ligera posibilidad de que se produzca una reacción alérgica al medio de contraste (yodo) y que se presente daño a órganos cercanos, pérdida de sangre excesiva, intoxicación de la sangre (sepsis) e inflamación de las vías biliares.

Consideraciones:

Este examen ha sido reemplazado en su mayor parte por la colangiopancreatografía retrógrada endoscópica (CPRE), el cual también puede tratar el bloqueo. Este examen se puede hacer si una CPRE no se puede llevar a cabo o ha fallado.

Una colangiopancreatografía por resonancia magnética (CPRM) es un método imagenológico más nuevo y no invasivo, basado en resonancia magnética, que suministra vistas similares de las vías biliares, pero no siempre es posible llevarlo a cabo. No se puede usar para tratar el bloqueo.
