Cuáles son los riesgos:

Existe cierta preocupación acerca de la radiación producida por cualquier gammagrafía. Sin embargo, el nivel de radiación en este procedimiento es menor que el que se presenta con la mayoría de procedimientos con rayos X y no se considera elevado como para ocasionar daño a la persona promedio.

Las mujeres embarazadas o lactantes deben consultar con el médico antes de someterse a cualquier exposición a la radiación, ya que los fetos y los bebés que están lactando son más sensibles a sus efectos.

Consideraciones especiales:

Se pueden necesitar otros exámenes para confirmar los resultados de este examen. Los exámenes adicionales pueden ser ecografía abdominal, tomografía computarizada del abdomen, biopsia del hígado o estudio del flujo hepático.

Con mucha frecuencia, se utilizan tomografías computarizadas o resonancias magnéticas para evaluar el hígado y el bazo en lugar de una gammagrafía del hígado.
