En general, cuando el procedimiento se lleva a cabo correctamente el riesgo es muy bajo. Puede haber sangrado o hematomas en el sitio de la punción o un sangrado tardío del sitio. Asimismo, se puede producir un deterioro de la circulación en el área de la punción, aunque es poco común.

Consideraciones especiales:

Se debe notificar al médico si se observa sangrado, hematomas, entumecimiento, hormigueo o decoloración en el sitio de la punción. De la misma manera, la persona le debe comentar al médico si está tomando algún anticoagulante o aspirina.
