Autoexamen testicular - Overview

Definición:

Es un examen de los testículos. También llamados testes, son los órganos reproductores masculinos que producen semen y la hormona testosterona y se encuentran ubicados en el escroto debajo del pene.

Forma en que se realiza el examen:

Realice este examen durante o después de tomar una ducha, ya que de esta forma la piel del escroto está caliente y relajada. Es mejor realizar el examen estando de pie:

  1. Palpe el saco escrotal suavemente para localizar un testículo.
  2. Sostenga el testículo con una mano mientras va pasando los dedos de la otra mano de manera firme pero suave sobre dicho testículo para examinar la superficie completa.
  3. Repita el procedimiento con el otro testículo.

Razones por las que se realiza el examen:

Un autoexamen testicular se hace para verificar si hay cáncer testicular. Los testículos normales contienen vasos sanguíneos y otras estructuras que pueden hacer que el examen sea confuso, pero el hecho de realizarse el autoexamen mensualmente le permite a usted familiarizarse con su anatomía normal. Entonces, si nota cualquier cambio con relación al examen anterior, sabrá que debe ponerse en contacto con el médico.

Usted debe realizarse el autoexamen testicular cada mes si tiene o ha tenido cualquiera de los siguientes factores de riesgo:

  • Antecedentes familiares de cáncer testicular
  • Tumor testicular previo
  • Criptorquidia
  • Es un adolescente o adulto joven (hasta aproximadamente 35 años de edad)
