Fiebre reumática aguda

Tratamiento:

Si a uno le diagnostican fiebre reumática aguda, recibirá tratamiento con antibióticos.

Los medicamentos antinflamatorios, como el ácido acetilsalicílico (aspirin ) o los corticosteroides, reducen la inflamación para ayudar a manejar la fiebre reumática aguda.

Es posible que uno tenga que tomar dosis bajas de antibióticos, como penicilina, zulfadiazina o eritromicina, durante un período prolongado para evitar el retorno de la faringitis estreptocócica.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

La recurrencia de la fiebre reumática es probable en las personas que no toman dosis bajas de antibióticos en forma continua, especialmente durante los primeros 3 a 5 años después del primer episodio de la enfermedad. Las complicaciones cardíacas pueden ser graves, particularmente si hay compromiso de las válvulas del corazón.

Complicaciones:

Arritmias
Daño a las válvulas cardíacas (especialmente estenosis mitral y aórtica)
Endocarditis
Insuficiencia cardíaca
Pericarditis
Corea de Sydenham

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Consulte con el médico si se presentan síntomas de fiebre reumática. Debido a que algunas otras afecciones tienen síntomas similares, se necesitará una evaluación médica cuidadosa.

Si tiene síntomas de faringitis estreptocócica, coméntele al médico. Si usted padece en verdad esta enfermedad, necesitará evaluación y tratamiento con el fin de disminuir el riesgo de desarrollar fiebre reumática.
