Intoxicación neonatal por cloranfenicol
Es una afección peligrosa que se presenta en neonatos, especialmente en bebés prematuros, que han recibido el fármaco cloranfenicol.
El cloranfenicol es un fármaco empleado para combatir infecciones bacterianas, entre ellas la meningitis. Sin embargo, si se administra a un recién nacido, este medicamento en altas dosis puede desencadenar una reacción de intoxicación potencialmente mortal.
Los bebés no tienen las enzimas (proteínas especiales en el cuerpo) necesarias para descomponer este fármaco. El fármaco se acumula en el torrente sanguíneo del bebé y puede llevar a que se presente:
