Prevención:

Si usted está postrado en una cama o no se puede mover debido a diabetes, problemas circulatorios, incontinencia o problemas mentales, le deben hacer una revisión diaria de la piel en busca de úlceras de decúbito. Usted o su cuidador deben revisar su cuerpo de la cabeza a los pies.

Preste especial atención a las áreas donde a menudo se forman las úlceras de decúbito. Busque áreas enrojecidas que, al presionarlas, no se tornen blancas e igualmente busque ampollas, úlceras o cráteres. Además, tome las siguientes medidas:

  • Cambie de posición al menos cada dos horas para aliviar la presión.
  • Use artículos que puedan ayudar a reducir la presión, como almohadas, badanas, almohadillas de espuma y polvo de talco, que se consiguen en tiendas de suministros médicos.
  • Consuma comidas bien balanceadas y saludables que contengan suficientes calorías para mantenerlo sano.
  • Tome mucha agua (8 a 10 tazas) al día.
  • Haga ejercicio diariamente, incluyendo los ejercicios de rango de movimiento.
  • Mantenga la piel limpia y seca.
  • Después de orinar o defecar, limpie el área y séquela bien. Un médico puede recomendarle cremas para ayudar a proteger la piel.
