Fibrilación ventricular

Es un ritmo cardÃaco seriamente anormal ( arritmia ) que causa la muerte, a menos que sea tratado de inmediato. Esta afección es responsable del 75 al 85% de muertes súbitas en personas con problemas cardÃacos.
Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:
Para bombear sangre hacia el cuerpo, todas las áreas del corazón normalmente se contraen al mismo tiempo. Las cámaras superiores del corazón (aurÃculas) se contraen antes que las dos cámaras inferiores (ventrÃculos). Sin embargo, durante la fibrilación ventricular, las contracciones se vuelven desorganizadas.
La causa más común de fibrilación ventricular es un ataque cardÃaco, pero dicha fibrilación puede ocurrir en cualquier momento que el corazón no reciba suficiente oxÃgeno o si la persona tiene otros trastornos cardÃacos.
Las afecciones que pueden llevar a que se presente fibrilación ventricular son, entre otras:
- CardiopatÃa congénita
- Accidente por electrocución o lesión al corazón
- Ataque cardÃaco
- Enfermedades del músculo cardÃaco, como las miocardiopatÃas
- CirugÃa del corazón
- Isquemia (falta de oxÃgeno para el músculo cardÃaco debido al estrechamiento de las arterias coronarias o shock )
Aunque la mayorÃa de las personas que sufren de fibrilación ventricular no tienen antecedentes previos de enfermedad cardÃaca, muchos tienen factores de riesgo para enfermedad cardiovascular, tales como el tabaquismo, la hipertensión y la diabetes.
