Como con cualquier procedimiento quirúrgico, existen riesgos. Las complicaciones más comunes del trasplante de cabello son: sangrado, infección y cicatrización; y aunque menos peligroso, es posible que el cabello trasplantado no luzca tan bien como la persona lo hubiera deseado. Las viejas técnicas a menudo daban como resultado mechones de crecimiento de cabello de apariencia poco natural, pero con las nuevos procedimientos, esta complicación no es frecuente.
