Después del procedimiento:

Después del procedimiento, usted se recuperará en un cuarto del hospital y lo vigilarán por si se presenta sangrado. Deberá mantener la cabeza levantada.

Generalmente no se presenta ningún dolor después del procedimiento.

Se podrá ir para su casa cuando se sienta mejor, posiblemente al día siguiente de la cirugía.

Muchas personas regresan a sus actividades cotidianas en 7 a 10 días.

El médico probablemente hará ecografías después de la cirugía para verificar que el stent esté funcionando correctamente.

Asimismo, le solicitarán que se someta a otra ecografía al cabo de unas semanas para constatar que el procedimiento de derivación portosistémica intrahepática transyugular (DPIT) esté funcionando.

Pronóstico:

El radiólogo puede decirle de inmediato cómo funcionó el procedimiento. La mayoría de los pacientes se recuperan bien.

La derivación portosistémica intrahepática transyugular funciona en aproximadamente el 80 al 90% de los casos de hipertensión portal.

El procedimiento es mucho más seguro que la cirugía y no implica ningún corte ni suturas.
