Maltrato psicológico y abandono infantil - Overview

Definición:

El abandono infantil, también llamado maltrato psicológico, es una forma de maltrato a los niños y ocurre cuando alguien intencionalmente no le suministra al niño alimento, agua, vivienda, vestido, atención médica u otras necesidades.

Otras formas de abandono infantil abarcan:

  • Permitir que el niño presencie actos de violencia o maltrato severo entre los padres o adultos.
  • Ignorar, insultar o amenazar al niño con violencia.
  • No suministrarle al niño un ambiente seguro y de apoyo emocional por parte de los adultos.
  • Mostrar descuido imprudente por el bienestar del niño.

Causas:

La tasa a la cual se presenta el abandono físico y emocional de los niños es difícil de definir.

Los factores de riesgo pueden abarcar:

  • Enfermedad mental
  • Pobreza
  • Estrés en la familia
  • Consumo de sustancias por parte de los padres o personas a cargo

Los niños maltratados están en riesgo de convertirse en adultos que maltraten a otros.
