Hipocalcemia en los bebés - Overview

Bajo nivel de calcio en los bebés.

Definición:

Es un nivel de calcio en la sangre anormalmente bajo. Este artículo aborda los bajos niveles de calcio sanguíneo en los bebés.

Causas:

El calcio es una sal que ayuda a que el corazón y los músculos trabajen. Un bebé sano generalmente tiene un control muy cuidadoso de los niveles de calcio en la sangre.

La hipocalcemia es más probable que ocurra en recién nacidos, especialmente en aquellos que nacieron demasiado temprano (prematuros). Las causas comunes de hipocalcemia en un recién nacido abarcan:

  • Ciertos medicamentos
  • Diabetes en la madre
  • Episodios de niveles muy bajos de oxígeno
  • Infección
  • Estrés causado por una enfermedad grave

Igualmente, existen algunas enfermedades poco comunes que pueden provocar niveles bajos de calcio, como el síndrome de DiGeorge y el hipoparatiroidismo congénito.
