Tratamiento:

No existe tratamiento para la leucomalacia periventricular. Se controlan y se tratan las funciones cardíaca, pulmonar, intestinal y renal de tal manera que permanezcan lo más normal posible.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Los bebés con leucomalacia periventricular están en riesgo de desarrollar problemas neurológicos significativos, especialmente aquellos que involucran movimientos como sentarse, gatear, caminar y mover los brazos, razón por la cual estos pacientes pueden necesitar fisioterapia. En caso de diagnosticarse leucomalacia periventricular en un bebé, éste debe someterse a controles por parte de un pediatra del desarrollo o un neurólogo pediátrico, además de su pediatra regular.
