La fisioterapia puede comenzar en la sala de recuperación inmediatamente después de la cirugía. Una máquina de movimiento pasivo continuo (MPC) flexiona y extiende suavemente la pierna por 6 a 8 horas al día durante algunas semanas.
Los ejercicios se aumentan con el tiempo hasta que la persona recupera el rango de movimiento completo. Se cree que estos ejercicios aceleran la regeneración del cartílago.
Es necesario que la persona no se apoye sobre la articulación afectada durante 6 a 8 semanas y deberá usar muletas para movilizarse.
