Riesgos:

Existe un ligero riesgo de complicaciones con la angioplastia y el cateterismo cardíaco. Sin embargo, los exámenes son muy seguros cuando los realiza un equipo experimentado. La ecografía intravascular no ofrece ningún riesgo adicional.

En general, los riesgos pueden abarcar:

Reacción alérgica a cualquier tinte utilizado durante el examen, al material del stent (endoprótesis) o medicamento utilizado en un stent liberador de fármacos
Sangrado o coagulación en el área donde se introdujo el catéter
Coágulo de sangre
Taponamiento del interior del stent (reestenosis de la endoprótesis)
Obstrucción completa del flujo de sangre en un área determinada
Daño a una válvula cardíaca o vaso sanguíneo
Ataque cardíaco
Latidos cardíacos irregulares (arritmia)
Insuficiencia renal (un riesgo más alto en personas que ya tienen problemas renales)
Accidente cerebrovascular (esto es infrecuente)
