Una angiografía por resonancia magnética generalmente es un procedimiento seguro. Sin embargo, las personas se han lesionado en las máquinas que producen IRM cuando ha habido metales en sus cuerpos u objetos metálicos dentro de la sala. Por esta razón, es muy importante comentarle al médico acerca de cualquier implante metálico que se tenga y retirar cualquier objeto metálico del cuerpo y de las prendas de vestir antes del examen.
