Los valores normales dependen de su edad, estatura, antecedentes étnicos y sexo.
Los resultados anormales apuntan hacia un problema en los pulmones, el cual puede deberse a una degradación de la estructura pulmonar, un problema con la pared torácica y sus músculos o a una incapacidad de los pulmones para expandirse o contraerse (vaciarse).
Con la pletismografía pulmonar, no se encontrará la causa del problema; sin embargo, le ayudará al médico a reducir la lista de posibles problemas.
