Hemorragia intraventricular (HIV) en recién nacidos

Tratamiento:

No hay ninguna terapia actual para detener el sangrado. Se aconseja hablar con el médico acerca de las decisiones sobre los cuidados. El equipo médico mantendrá al bebé lo más estable posible y tratará los síntomas en la forma apropiada. Por ejemplo, se puede hacer una transfusión de sangre para mejorar la presión arterial y el conteo sanguíneo.

Si se presenta hidrocefalia, se puede practicar una punción raquídea para aliviar la presión. Si la afección no puede tratarse con dicha punción, se puede requerir cirugía para colocar un tubo o derivación en el cerebro con el fin de drenar el líquido.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

La recuperación depende de la gravedad del sangrado y de si se presentó o no hidrocefalia. Los bebés con sangrado grado I o II tienen pronósticos similares a los bebés prematuros que no tienen hemorragia intraventricular.

La hemorragia intraventricular más severa puede llevar a retrasos en el desarrollo y a problemas para controlar el movimiento.

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Las visitas regulares del médico se recomiendan durante varios años después de haberse diagnosticado la hemorragia intraventricular. El médico verificará el progreso en el desarrollo del niño y se asegurará de que el sangrado no haya dañado el cerebro.
