Síntomas:

Debido a que los síntomas del arco aórtico doble son a menudo leves, es posible que el problema no se descubra hasta que el niño tenga unos cuantos años.

El arco aórtico doble puede ejercer presión sobre la tráquea y el esófago, ocasionando dificultad para respirar y deglutir. La gravedad de los síntomas depende de qué tanta presión esté ejerciendo el arco aórtico sobre estas estructuras.

Los síntomas respiratorios abarcan:

Sonido chillón durante la respiración (estridor)
Respiración ruidosa
Neumonías repetitivas
Sibilancias

Los síntomas digestivos pueden abarcar:

Asfixia
Dificultad para comer y deglutir
Vómitos

Signos y exámenes:

Los síntomas pueden llevar al médico a sospechar de un arco aórtico doble y entonces se necesitarán otros exámenes para diagnosticar esta afección.

Radiografía de tórax
Gammagrafías que crean imágenes de cortes transversales del cuerpo (TC o RM)
Ecografía del corazón (ecocardiografía)
Radiografía empleando una sustancia que resalta el esófago (esofagografía)
