Las razones más comunes de un resultado anormal son:

Hernia de disco (radiculopatía cervical).
Estrechamiento de la columna cervical (estenosis raquídea).
Desgaste anormal de los huesos y del cartílago en el cuello (espondilosis cervical).

Los resultados anormales también pueden deberse a:

Infección ósea (osteomielitis).
Inflamación de disco (disquitis).
Infección de la columna vertebral.
Esclerosis múltiple.
Lesión o compresión de la médula espinal.
Fractura de la columna.
Tumor medular.
