Después del procedimiento:

El promedio de hospitalización para este procedimiento es de 2 días o menos. Algunas personas incluso ni siquiera tienen que quedarse de un día para otro en el hospital. Usted debe ser capaz de caminar al cabo de 6 a 8 horas después del procedimiento.

Pronóstico:

La angioplastia mejora el flujo sanguíneo arterial para la mayoría de las personas; sin embargo, los resultados dependerán de dónde estaba el bloqueo, del tamaño del vaso sanguíneo y del grado de obstrucción que usted pueda tener en otras arterias.

Practicarse la angioplastia puede hacer que la cirugía de derivación abierta sea innecesaria. Pero si ésta no ayuda, el cirujano posiblemente necesite realizar la cirugía de derivación abierta o incluso la amputación.

La angioplastia no cura la causa del bloqueo en las arterias. Las arterias pueden resultar estrechas de nuevo. Siga una dieta cardiosaludable, haga ejercicio, deje de fumar (si lo hace) y reduzca el estrés para ayudar a disminuir sus probabilidades de tener una arteria bloqueada de nuevo. El médico puede prescribirle medicamentos para ayudar a bajar el colesterol.
