Se extrae sangre de una vena (venopunción), por lo general, del pliegue interno del codo o del dorso de la mano. Se inserta una aguja en la vena y se recoge la sangre en un tubo de vidrio o jeringa hermética. La preparación puede variar de acuerdo al tipo específico de examen.
