Esta es una microfotografía de las heces de los ácaros de la sarna en raspados de piel. Se piensa que este material causa una reacción de tipo alérgico que puede ser responsable de la picazón intensa. Esta picazón puede durar por mucho tiempo después de que los ácaros de la sarna hayan muerto, debido a que los huevos muertos y las heces de dichos ácaros permanecen en la piel.
