La D y C (dilatación y curetaje) es un procedimiento en el cual se mantiene abierto el canal vaginal con un espéculo y se dilata el cuello uterino con una varilla metálica. A continuación, se pasa una cureta a través del canal cervical y dentro de la cavidad uterina, donde se raspa el tejido endometrial y se lo recolecta para examinarlo.
