La artritis reumatoide es una enfermedad autoinmune en la cual el sistema inmunológico del cuerpo se ataca a sí mismo. Por lo general, las articulaciones se afectan con un patrón simétrico que ataca las manos y otras articulaciones y empeora en la mañana. La artritis reumatoide también es una enfermedad sistémica que afecta otros órganos del cuerpo, mientras que la osteoartritis se limita a las articulaciones. Con el tiempo, ambos tipos de artritis pueden causar discapacidad.
