< Atras La poliomielitis es una enfermedad transmisible causada por una infección viral y que ocurre por el contacto directo con secreciones infectadas. El polio se encuentra en todo el mundo, pero la inmunización ha reducido su incidencia. El polio clínico afecta el sistema nervioso central (cerebro y médula espinal). Es más probable que el resultado de la enfermedad sea una discapacidad y no la muerte.
