Estenosis mitral

La estenosis mitral es un trastorno de la válvula cardíaca que estrecha u obstruye la abertura de la válvula mitral. El estrechamiento de la válvula mitral evita que la válvula abra adecuadamente y obstruye el flujo sanguíneo desde la aurícula izquierda hasta el ventrículo izquierdo, lo cual puede reducir la cantidad de sangre que fluye hacia el cuerpo. El factor de riesgo principal de la estenosis mitral es una historia de fiebre reumática, pero puede ser ocasionada también por el embarazo u otro estrés en el organismo como infección respiratoria, endocarditis y otros trastornos cardíacos.
