Evaluación de la presión sanguínea

Para medir la presión sanguínea, el médico utiliza un instrumento que se denomina “esfingomanómetro”, más conocido como tensiómetro. La banda del tensiómetro se localiza alrededor de la parte superior del brazo y se infla para detener el flujo de sangre en la arteria. A medida que se desinfla esta banda, el médico usa un estetoscopio para escuchar el bombeo de sangre a través de la arteria. Estos sonidos de bombeo se registran en un indicador de presión unido a la banda. El primer sonido de bombeo que el médico escucha se registra como presión sistólica y, el último, como presión diastólica.
