Prueba de escarificación

Uno de los métodos comunes de evaluar las alergias es la prueba de escarificación. Esta prueba consiste en colocar una pequeña cantidad de la sustancia que se sospecha es la causante de la alergia (alergeno) en la piel (por lo general en el antebrazo, la parte superior del brazo o la espalda) y a continuación se pincha la piel de forma que el alergeno se introduzca debajo de la superficie de ésta. La piel se observa de cerca en busca de signos de una reacción, que incluyen inflamación y enrojecimiento del área. Con esta prueba es posible probar varios alergenos sospechosos al mismo tiempo y se obtienen los resultados en unos 20 minutos.
