Banda gástrica ajustable

Las operaciones gástricas restrictivas, tales como el procedimiento con banda gástrica ajustable, sirven únicamente para restringir y disminuir la ingesta de alimento y no interfieren con el proceso digestivo normal.

En este procedimiento, se coloca una banda hueca hecha de un material especial alrededor del estómago cerca de su extremo superior, creando una pequeña bolsa y un conducto estrecho dentro de la porción remanente más grande del estómago. Este pequeño conducto retarda el vaciado de los alimentos desde la bolsa y produce una sensación de llenura.

La banda se puede apretar o aflojar con el tiempo para cambiar el tamaño del conducto. Inicialmente, la bolsa contiene alrededor de 28 gramos (1 onza) de alimento y posteriormente se expande de 57 a 85 gr (2-3 onzas).
