La estenosis espinal es el estrechamiento del canal espinal y se puede desarrollar a medida que la persona envejece por la resequedad y encogimiento de los espacios discales (80% de los discos están compuestos de agua). Si esto sucede, incluso una lesión menor puede causar inflamación del disco y ejercer presión sobre el nervio. La persona puede sentir dolor en cualquier parte a lo largo de la espalda o la(s) pierna(s) que este nervio inerva.
