Los bronquios en los pulmones están recubiertos con proyecciones similares a cabellos, llamados cilios, que extraen microbios y residuos de las vías respiratorias. Esparcidas por todos los cilios están las células caliciformes, las cuales secretan moco que ayuda a proteger el revestimiento de los bronquios y a atrapar microorganismos.
