Este nódulo rojo e irregular corresponde a un carcinoma invasivo de células escamosas, que es un tipo de cáncer de piel cuya apariencia inicial (en la fotografía) puede ser muy similar a la de una masa no cancerosa denominada queratoacantoma. Los cánceres de células escamosas pueden hacer metástasis (diseminarse), por lo que se deben extirpar quirúrgicamente tan pronto como se los diagnostique.
