La mononucleosis infecciosa produce úlceras en la garganta, el aumento de tamaño de los ganglios linfáticos y fatiga. La garganta se puede volver roja y las amígdalas pueden cubrirse de un material blanquecino. La mononucleosis y la amigdalitis estreptocócica severa se parecen mucho y, a menos que hayan otros hallazgos que sugieran una mononucleosis, puede ser necesario hacer un cultivo de la garganta y un análisis de sangre con el fin de llegar a un diagnóstico preciso.
