Divertículo de Meckel

El divertículo de Meckel es una de las anomalías congénitas más comunes. Se produce cuando la conexión entre el intestino y el cordón umbilical no se cierra completamente durante el desarrollo fetal. Como consecuencia, se forma una hernia sacular en el intestino delgado conocida como divertículo de Meckel. En la mayoría de los casos, este tipo de divertículos no causa problemas; sin embargo, en un número pequeño de pacientes se pueden infectar causando una condición llamada diverticulitis que obstruye el intestino o lo hace sangrar.

El síntoma más común de la diverticulitis de Meckel es sangrado indoloro por el recto. Las heces pueden tener sangre roja o lucir negras y alquitranadas.
