Las 4 glándulas paratiroides están localizadas cerca o adheridas al lado posterior de la glándula tiroides y producen la hormona paratiroidea (PTH). Esta hormona regula el balance del magnesio, el calcio y el fósforo en la sangre y en los huesos, manteniendo un equilibrio entre los niveles de minerales en la sangre y en los huesos.
