La tiroides es una glándula ubicada en el cuello. Es parte del sistema endocrino u hormonal y juega un papel fundamental en la regulación del metabolismo del organismo. Los trastornos tiroideos son más comunes en los niños y adolescentes (especialmente en las niñas) que en los niños menores de un año. La mayoría de las condiciones tiroideas puede tratarse con medicamentos, pero algunas veces se requiere cirugía.
