Enema de bario
El enema de bario se realiza para examinar las paredes del colon. Durante el procedimiento, se inserta cuidadosamente en el recto un tubo para enema bien lubricado. A través de éste, se deja fluir en el colon el bario, un medio de contraste radiopaco, visible con rayos X. Se monitorea el flujo del bario a través de una pantalla fluoroscópica de rayos X (parecida a un monitor de TV). Este examen se utiliza para detectar el cáncer de colon. También se puede utilizar para diagnosticar y evaluar la severidad de enfermedades intestinales inflamatorias.
