Huesos largos

Un hueso largo tiene una diáfisis o cuerpo y dos extremos y es más largo que ancho. Los huesos largos tienen una capa exterior gruesa de hueso compacto y una cavidad medular interior que contiene la médula ósea. Los extremos de los huesos largos contienen hueso esponjoso y una línea epifisaria. Dicha línea epifisaria es un remanente de un área que contiene cartílago hialino que crece durante la infancia para alargar el hueso. Todos los huesos en los brazos y piernas, excepto la rótula y los huesos de la muñeca y el tobillo, son huesos largos.
