La prueba de captación de yodo radioactivo es un tipo de prueba nuclear que se realiza para evaluar la función de la tiroides. El paciente ingiere cápsulas o líquido con yodo radioactivo (I-123 ó I-131). Al cabo de un tiempo (generalmente entre 6 y 24 horas más tarde) una sonda gamma se coloca sobre la glándula tiroides para medir la cantidad de radioactividad que tiene la glándula. Posteriormente se comparan los valores.
