Reparación de un disco herniado

Cuando la porción blanda y gelatinosa central de un disco intervertebral es forzada a través de una parte debilitada del disco se presenta la condición conocida como hernia discal. La mayoría de las hernias se presentan en el área lumbar de la columna y es una de las causas más comunes de dolor en la parte inferior de la espalda. El tratamiento principal para una hernia discal es un período inicial de reposo con medicamentos para el dolor y antiinflamatorios, seguido de fisioterapia. Si el dolor y los síntomas persisten se recomienda cirugía para remover la porción herniada del disco intervertebral.
